Just like with any technology, it’s important to take proper care of your hearing aids. This will make sure you get the best performance and hear the sounds of your daily life. While you can clean your hearing aids at home, it’s important to get them checked by an audiologist at least several times a year.
Why a Clean and Check Appointment Is Important
A member of our audiology team will remove earwax from your device’s microphone and receiver openings, wipe your devices down and replace the wax guards if they are clogged.
They will test your hearing aid’s receiver, microphone, controls and battery compartment.
If issues are found, your audiologist will fix them in-house if possible. For larger repairs, your devices may need to be sent to the manufacturer.
When To Schedule Clean and Check Appointments
We recommend taking your hearing aids in every six months, or if you have noticed a significant decline in quality.
Caring for Hearing Aids at Home
In between clean and check appointments, you should:
- Clean your devices daily
- Wash your hands before touching them
- Update the wax guards as necessary
- Properly store them in their case when not in use
