Winter comes with a lot of accessories, from fluffy scarves to wool gloves and earmuffs that jut out four inches from your head. While they’re not as cozy, hearing aids also come with accessories.
Let’s take a look at a few helpful hearing aid accessories to keep your devices safe, clean and working their best all winter long.
1. A Dryer

We tend to associate water damage with the summer, when you’re more likely to splash your devices while kayaking around Lake Accotink. It’s true that summer has a lot of water dangers, but you shouldn’t underestimate the snow and sleet of winter.
Icy water can soak through your hat or fall directly on your hearing aids. On top of that, the sudden shift between cold outdoors and warm indoors can cause condensation on or in your devices. That’s where a dryer comes in.
A hearing aid dryer gently pulls moisture from your devices without damaging their internal components. You can choose from an electric dryer, which looks like a small case, or a drying jar with desiccating beads. Simply pop your devices in at the end of any damp days.
2. A Cleaning Kit
You should clean your hearing aids every night. Cleaning kits vary but typically include a soft brush with a wax pick, a cloth, a wax loop and a wax guard changer. Your kit may also include separate brushes and wax picks, as well as a ventilation cleaner.
Every night, gently brush the microphone, earpiece and casing on each of your devices. Then wipe it down with a soft cloth. You can use the wax pick, ventilation cleaner and wax guard changer as needed to remove wax buildup. If your tubing or earmolds detach from the body of the devices, remove and wash them in soapy water. Let them dry thoroughly before reattaching.
3. A Hearing Aid Clip
The last thing you want when you’re about to win a snowball fight is for your hearing aid to get knocked loose and fall in the snow. Secure your devices to your shirt or around your neck using special hearing aid clips. If you don’t have the clips, you can use a wide headband. Just make sure it isn’t putting too much pressure on your devices.
An estimated 28.8 million U.S. adults could benefit from hearing aids. Finding the right accessories for your devices ensures they continue to work their best.
